A basis of this activity is gathering of the facts, their ordering, the critical analysis and on this base synthesis of new knowledge or generalisations, which not only describe the observable natural or public phenomena, but also allow to construct causal-investigation ties, and as consequence - to predict.
It's not necessarily that the results of scientific researches can be applied directly in any activity. At the same time the reception of scientific results is often interfaced with the big expenses.
